NEW PB for Phoebe Stuart

I decided to do a day session on a 17 acre club water hoping to get a few carp. I had set-up in a swim on a point with an exposed gravel bar about 50 yards in front of me and a small bay on either side. The wind was blowing a big westerly straight in my face. I had a couple of carp fishing to the front of the gravel bar in around 4 feet of water, but all day I was seeing signs of pike in both bays feeding on silvers that had been pushed into them by the wind. By early afternoon I decided to bring one carp rod in and fish a spinner into the bays in the hope of snaring a pike. Luckily my mum was also on the lake piking so I begged and borrowed a couple of traces and some spinners, plus a few dead baits and some other bits and pieces. I started fishing the spinner and after about twenty minutes bent in to a good pike that gave me a great fight before the hooks pulled at the net. I was...

Early Christmas Present...

Posted on: 04/01/2012

The weather looked spot on and after decorating my daughter’s room on and off for a fortnight I was looking for somewhere I might have a reasonable chance of a bite in just a few hours fishing. I was looking at the Coking website the night before and kept seeing this big scaley mirror – everyone is after the big common (upper 30s) in there but I just kept looking at this mirror and thinking what a belter it looked. I got there at dawn but there were no signs of fish showing even though it was mild. I blanked for a couple of hours in a swim in the middle of the pond, then dropped my rods in a small back channel on the way to a different swim, just laid them on the floor and slackened them off to see if there were any fish tucked up in some deep water behind an island that I might have been walking past. There was no suggestion of carp about until after about ten minutes the...

Autumn Gold at Baden Hall

Posted on: 04/11/2011
Category: Wychwood

I have recently just come back from Baden hall Fisheries in Staffordshire, having been doing a 2 day tutorial with a young local lad name Danny Garmston, who is a regular customer to the local tackle shop I work at.   Danny wanted some tips and tactics on gravel pit fishing having not fished one and was after a local water with some bigger fish to target, so I chose Baden Hall which is ideal being just 30minutes away for us both.  It’s got some of the best looking fish in the midlands to over 40lb and a lot of 30lb commons to, and I do like the venue and the people there myself. Danny wanted a goods head up on how to combat these type of waters, with them being crystal clear and so rich in naturals, weed, and features. The weather conditions do play a massive part on them to, and I would say they learn you the most in angling with the methods you will having to use to succ...
